Full Description

(TR 3600 5118 Sited to place name only). An Anglo-Saxon blue glass jar. Found by Mr F. Oliver in 1970 in the front of his house, The Beeches, St Richard's Road, Deal. The vessel was found at a depth of 7feet whilst the owner dug down to locate natural chalk so that a tree could be planted away from it. The vessel came from a grave pit aligned in a north- western direction across the lawn and belongs to Harden's Type A iv in his classification under class viii (see illustration card). The vessel is the eighth of its kind to be found in England, is probably of English manufacture and may have been made in Faversham. (1)
