Full Description
TR 34495456. Occupation scatters. To the south-west at Rooring Gutter, on the edge of the marsh, the deposits overlying the prehistoric levels are considerably thinner and ploughing here had brought many finds to the surface. Walking the fields near Hacklinge led to the recovery of an extensive collection of struck flints and over 100 sherds of prehistoric pottery, including material of Late Neolithic, Beaker, Early Bronze Age and Iron Age date. Trenching in two fields in this area again revealed a "flint" layer in the top of the silty clay and this produced much flint material and a few sherds of grooved ware, Beaker and Collared urn. No stratified Iron Age pottery was recovered. (See also TR 35 NW 104). (1)
