Full Description
TR 3370 5050 A Mesolithic pick found on the surface of a field at Sutton Hill in the parish of Sutton. It is complete, with a coarsely triangular cross-section and a shiny blue-white patina (see illustration card). Weight 226 grams. It is a core implement made almost entirely by a coarse stone-on-stone technique and is wider in the middle, tapering irregularly to each point. The flint is of chalk downland origin rather than beach pebble. The overall shape and size of this pick are reminiscent of larger examples of chert picks from the Portland region of the Dorset coast.
