Monument record TR 36 NE 8 - Romano-British burial ground, Rumfields, St. Peters

Summary

A Romano-British burial ground at Rumfields, St. Peter's indicated by the discovery of a number of burial urns and associated artefacts. Roman cinerary urns, pottery, bronze brooches and bronze necklets were found here in AD 1909. The discovery of skeletons has also been reported at the site, and the associated assemblages indicated a Celtic influence. The artefacts have been dated to the 1st to 2nd centuries. Some of the pottery is on display in Broadstairs Public Library; the present whereabouts of the jewellery is not known.
