Full Description

In 2007 Wessex Archaeology carried out an excavation at Hoo Road, Wainscott. A total of five small (35-50mm diameter) iron cannonballs were found. They probably date to the late 17th or 18th century. Also found were a total of 84 pieces of lead shot (4-18mm diameter). They represent a mixture of musket and carbine shot and are probably of the same date as the cannon balls. (1)

These excavations are collated and summarised in a January 2015 'Publication Report' by CgMs. The report makes concluding interpretations of the different phases of occupation at the site but these are far too detailed to summarise here. See Source Ref for further information. (2)
