Full Description
During a watching brief carried out by L-P Archaeology at Rochester Airport Industrial Estate in 2006, an underground air raid shelter was found. It probably dates to the Second World War. It consisted of a set of concrete steps descending to a brick-lined tunnel with a reinforced concrete roof. The structure continued beyond the limits of the development site but it was apparent that it has probably been encountered during the earlier phases of development on the site, as the rest of the shelter was filled with building rubble.
