Full Description
In 1991, British Telecom dug a trench 4m deep along York Road, Dover. The sides were obscured by shoring but Oxford Archaeological Unit inspected the trench. A Medieval occupation layer, sealed by windblown sand, was uncovered. Chalk walls, aligned ENE-WSW, and thought to be of 12th/13th century or earlier date were also seen within the trench. The dating was based upon one body sherd. (1)
