Full Description

'The coaster TIJGER, on the way from Par to Amsterdam collided with the US Navy ship R. SQUIBB in fog, and
sank south of Goodwin Sands, 6 miles from South Foreland.'(, comment NV Dec 2007)
'The... collision occurred east of the Goodwin Sands. It was between the American liberty ship EDWARD R
SQUIBB and a small Dutch vessel, the TIJGER, which foundered in three minutes. Two lifeboats from the
EDWARD R SQUIBB picked up all the eight people who were aboard the TIJGER, including the wife and baby son
of the skipper, Mr H Pepping. Mr Pepping grabbed the baby when the ships collided, and held on to him in the water
for about an hour. They were separated from Mrs Pepping but were reunited in the lifeboat. The baby quickly
recovered after being picked up.'
