Maritime record TR 01 NE 228 - PRODROMOS

Summary

1958 wreck of the stern section of a cargo steamer which broke in two and foundered after a collision with another vessel, somewhere between Rye Harbour and East of Dungeness just a few miles offshore. She had been en route from Montreal to Helsinki with a cargo of grain. She was built of steel in Richmond (USA) in 1943 as the liberty ship JAMES B HICKOK. It is debated whether she was Greek or Liberian at the time of her loss.

'Collision (KING MINOS) 12nm off Dungeness 3.12.58 & beached 50.46N/00.55E [Montreal-Helsinki, grain].'

'The Greek ship PRODROMOS was involved in a collision with the KING MINOS... during a fog, about 2.5 miles
South of Rye Harbour. The forepart was taken in tow but no trace was found of the after part which was cut off from
No5 hatch.'
Source 3 gives her position as (a very approximate) 51N, 01.20E.
Whatever wreckage remains, comprises of only her stern section, but the positions given by sources 3 and 4 suggest
that she could be anywhere from 2.5 miles south of Rye Harbour, to up to 12 miles eastwards (Admiralty charts 536

far been found.
