Full Description
Charted as L'ARMANDECHE, 'entire wreck' in the Marine zone.
Vessel structure:
Lies in position 51°09.88N, 001°30.51E at a depth of 11.2m in a general depth of 12m.
Scour depth: 1.3m.
She was located in 1982, and examined by trisponder in 1986 when she had 'either broken up of settled into the
seabed. Gave a small magnetic deflection.' (1, 23.10.86)
She was still visible, albeit on the edge of the search area during an area sonar search five years later, but by 1994
could only be located by magnetometer, and was 'presumed buried' following a DCS3 and echo-sounder search in
1997.
'Well sunk into the sand at South Sand's Head east side at 51°09.52N, 001°30.37E.'
Documentary evidence:
'Grounded on Goodwin Sands and later sank when towed off. Crew safe.'
'The French trawler went aground on the Goodwin Sands, was later towed off but sank in shallow water.'
'1982 A Framed Letter of Thanks was awarded to Coxswain/Assistant Mechanic Anthony Hawkins and his crew
when five people were rescued from the fishing vessel Armandeche.'
