Summary

Remains of a French trawler which failed to return from a fishing trip in December 1987 and having foundered, was found in January of the following year approximately 6.5 miles ESE of the East Goodwin Lightship. Built of steel, she was an engine driven vessel.

Charted as VIRGINIE in the Marine zone.
Vessel structure:
Lies in position 51°08.83N, 001°44.24E at a depth of 34m in a general depth of 39m.
Sonar dimensions: 23 x 8 x 4.7m. Orientation: 124°. No scour.

'Failed to return after fishing trip, cause of sinking unknown.' (1, citing Lloyds List.
'This French fishing vessel failed to return from a fishing trip, but was located by divers 27.01.1988 and the wreck at
that time marked by an orange light buoy. The buoy then went missing and was not remarked. Salvage operations
commenced 03.03.1988 when the masts of the wreck were removed, after which it was considered she presented no
hazard to shipping.'
