Full Description

A rectilinear enclosure, visible as cropmarks on the 1990 aerial photos, to the south of Margate.

A rectilinear enclosure measuring 40m x 25m. There appears to be a 15m length of ditch within the north corner of the larger enclosure, perhaps an entranceway? There are faint traces other linear features on the same alignment, though their form is uncertain (1).

The cropmark remains of the northern portion of an incomplete rectilinear enclosure with traces of three sides and two curved corners visible located at TR 3569 6892, likely to be the same site described above. This is possibly the remains of a later prehistoric settlement enclosure. A broken linear ditch 57m in length extends SW from close to the NW corner of the enclosure. The enclosure measures 42m across (W-E) and has a maximum visible N-S dimension on the east side of 30m. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs (EARTH.GOOGLE.COM MAR-2022 ACCESSED 04-JAN-2023) as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. (2)
