Full Description

The earthwork remains of a former quarry pit seen at TR 3624 6613 on RAF aerial photographs taken in 1946. The site of this quarry now lies under post-war housing at Newington on the outskirts of Ramsgate. When viewed through a stereoscope these photographs clearly show this as a sub-circular hollow 42m x 47m. (1)

Prior to this, this site was mapped and recorded during the 1989 RCHME: The Classification of Cropmarks in Kent, a pilot mapping project which was a precursor of the National Mapping Programme. It was identified as a possible ciruclar enclosure visible as a cropmark on these same photographs.
