Port Lympne has early-20th-century formal gardens of 6 hectares designed by Sir Phillip Sassoon, laid out by Philip Tilden with an adjacent zoo and 17 hectares of woodland. The Zoo has been continually developed and in its current form is a world leader in conversation, protecting and breeding endangered species and returning many to the wild. The most striking feature of the garden is the elaborate terracing on the steep slopes. Other features include ornamental ponds, fountains and a herbaceous border.
