Full Description
[TR 398672 sited to West Cliff] Fragments of pottery mostly dating tothe 1st century AD were found during the construction of new roads at West Cliff, Ramsgate. In 1922 a small cup Upchurch ware, a copy of a plate form 31, a large urn of coarse paste; a cup possibly of Castor ware and two bull bottles were found. In addition, a number of animalbones were collected including ox, horse, sheep, pig and many other domestic animals. In 1923 two complete groups were found, the first a tall urn with a south Gaulish plate (Dr 31) and a small soft-paste cup and a bottle. The second group consisted of a similar tall urn with a plate (Dr 18).In addition pottery of type Dr 27 and a red coarse bottle were found. (1) Ramsgate - Vase used as a cinerary vessel. (2)
