Summary

Bronze Age barrows, discovered at Pendell near Broadstairs, during extension work to the council refuse tip. Finds include a beaker, Neolithic and Bronze Age sherds. This is also the site of a early medieval (Jutish) cemetery.

Full Description

[TR 37496929] Cropmarks (ring ditch). (1) These cropmarks fall in ploughed fields on the summit and south side of a downland ridge. Nothing was visible. (2) (TR) 375693. BA barrows were discovered here during extension work to the council refuse tip. Finds include a beaker, Ne and BA sherds. This site had a superimposed Jutish cemetery (TR 36 NE 60). Part of the site containing a barrow and Jutish graves remains unexcavated to the north west of the old tip boundary. (3) Seen on RCHME AP as ring ditch containing 2 possible pit features. (Round barrow?) (4)
