Full Description

In 1999 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a watching brief on topsoil stripping in preparation for the construction of a new agricultural building at St Radigund's Farm. A total of 521 pieces of flintwork was recovered. Just over one third of the collected material showed signs of working; this included: five cores, three adzes/picks, 38 scrapers, 28 awls/piercers/borers, 47 notched or spured flakes, nine broad chisel ends, nine knives, three fabricators and three worked blades. There were in total 316 waste flakes.

Three waste flakes had patina that suggests a Palaeolithic date. Adzes and picks were dated to the Mesolithic, along with a blade core and the three worked blades. The majority of the material was dated to the Bronze Age. (1)
