Full Description

Site of a Second World War Heavy Anti-Aircraft battery, designated as D7. It apparently consisted of six 3" guns.

A watching brief of water main works in 2008 located two rubble filled underground structures in the area. These were possibly either munitions stores or shelters on the edge of the facility. (1)

Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery D7 on the Western Heights. It was armed with six mobile 3-inch guns with GL Mark IA radar in 1942, replaced by six static 3-inch guns. It was manned by 411 Battery of the 127th Royal Artillery Regiment in 1942, and was used as a Diver Battery of the Dover Section , 71 Anti Aircraft Brigade, from 2nd August 1944, when it was manned by 339 Battery of the 173 Anti Aircraft Regiment. It was retained as a Nucleus Force Headquarters Battery in 1946. The given NGR falls within a Scheduled Monument. (2-3)
