Full Description
In 2009 Kent Archaeological Projects carried out a watching brief on the laying of a water main beside Seven Mile Lane. A spread containing ragstone blocks and medieval pottery was encountered. It was 0.25m deep, 9.8m north-south and 6.3m east-west. The pottery consisted of 214 sherds from a flat-handled skillet, a tubular handled vessel, lid-seated pots and cooking pots. There were also five sherds from a Saintonge jug, a high status import from France. The date range covers the period .c1200-1350. The spread is thought to relate to a much-disturbed dwelling, perhaps a sunken-floored one which was at least partly stone-built. (1)
