Summary

Cropmarks of an enclosure identifed from aerial photos. Excavations during a housing development revealed part of a late Iron Age enclosure containing a series of four and six post structures. Four Bronze Age barrows and an Iron Age enclousre were excavated at Millmead Road from 1975-77.

Full Description

A cropmark of an elongated enclosure with convex longsides can be seenat TR 37576998. This is now under housing. (1,2,3) TR 375699. Millmead Road, Margate. Excavations during major housing development revealed part of a late Iron Age enclosure containing a series of four and six post structures. (4) TR 375699. Four bronze age barrows and an Iron Age enclousre were excavated at Millmead Road from 1975-77. [For barrow and enclosure nearby, see TR 36 NE 137 and 143] (5-7).

An Iron Age enclosure is viisble as a cropmark on CUCAP WT86 16-JUN-1959 and was mapped as part of the Thanet Landscape Mapping Project. (8)
