Full Description

During an archaeological watching brief carried out during the groundworks associated with the construction of a rear extension to an existing property off St Johns Road, New Romney, a single rubbish pit cut through the subsoil, sealed by the topsoil, and contained crushed mortar fragments and small heavily abraded and crumbled flecks on post-medieval roof tile. Although no dating material was present, it is likely that this feature is contemporary with the later development of tenement plots following the demolition of the medieval precinct [possibly] associated with the
Hospital of St. John the Baptist. (1) (information summarised from source)
