Full Description
Watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 2004 during groundworks. A sequence of clay floor layers separated by tread layers was found. The nature of the associated building is not known but it was presumably timber due to the lack of stone building debris. The pottery assemblage suggests the building was abandoned sometime in the mid-late C13. Parts of the late C18 Union Workshoue were also uncovered in the foundations of the present building.
