Full Description
Walkover survey undertaken by Oxford Archaeology South in 2009 prior to road widening. A hollow way was found. Measures 5m wide and c.1.5m deep with a bank to the southern edge. Runs east from the A21. Extends beyond the survey area so uncertain how far it east it runs. (1)
Reported again in a second walkover survey undertaken by Oxford Archaeology in 2014. From the report: "Substantial hollow way c. 1.8m in depth x c. 2m wide at its base, there is a bank on the southern side of the hollow way measuring c. 1.5m in width at base x c. 0.7m in height. Shows very clearly as a LiDAR feature, continuing sinuously along a public right of way towards Pembury Hall c. 1km to the east. It is probable that this represents a plough bank or headland from an earlier field system. The fact that there is no corresponding bank on the northern side, suggests a different land use." (2)
