Full Description
Excavations have recently been carried out at the rear of a row of terraced houses (nos. 107-117) Westgate Road, Dartford. Because of its proximity to the site of the "Priory House", it was decided that a trial excavation should be undertaken which might uncover further evidence of the foundations of either Henry VIII's Manor House or the medieval priory. A trench was dug at right angles to the road, between two concrete paths. Unfortunately no foundations were located, although tile and bricks were found, evidence of a drainage ditch (1-5m deep by 2m wide) was also unearthed with pottery ranging from Tudor Green ware , through medieval glazed and coarsed ware to Roman wares including Samian (1) and site photographs (2).
