Full Description

Evaluation undertaken in 1998 by Wessex archaeology. The east flanking line of gun emplacements of the Napoleonic Shorncliffe Battery were found. A saw-tooth line of stone walling was found running roughly NE-SW, forming the cladding for the lozenge-shaped earthworks protecting the guns. A circular brick foundation and an associated arc of bricks reveals the position of a gun. (1)
