Summary

Four Silver coins (sceattas) were previously found in Birchington. Three of the coins are silver whilst the fourth was thought to be brass. One of the silver sceattas is on display in Maidstone Museum.

Full Description

Silver coins (sceattas) from Birchington are in the Mayer Collection, Liverpool One coin is featured by Smith (a) :- obv. Bust to right; before it, AEPA in runes; behind it A. Rev. A beaded square, containing the letters TT. (1,2) Four sceattas, three silver and one brass plated, from Birchington. One silver sceatta, is on exhibition in Maidstone Museum. (a) given by Mrs. Edwards. (3) Birchington, Kent. One sceatta class D type 8 (Frisian) in the Maidstone Museum, Nicholls gift, ex Edwards. (4)additional reference (5-7)
