Monument record TR 36 NW 18 - Chalk cut chamber, Acol Farm

Summary

A circular chamber was discovered during ploughing on Acol Farm in the 1930's. The feature was cut out of the solid chalk to a depth of c.4.5m, and included a domed roof part which had collapsed. Nothing was found within the chamber and given a lack of sub-chambers, it was not thought to be a dene-hole at the time. However, on the basis of the available evidence this now seems the most likely identification. The feature was subsequently filled in and now nothing visible remains at the site.
