Full Description
Twenty-seven bronze celts were found together in 1724 when a sea-gate was dug through the cliff at Garlinge, near Margate. (1) The sea-gate could not be identified. There has been considerable cliff erosion in the area since 1724. (2) The discovery was originally published in 1736, accompanied by an illustration of some of the objects. Lewis states that the findspot was at a farm called `Mutterer', presumably to be identified with Mutrix near Garlinge. The subsequent history of the objects is not known. (3)
