Monument record TQ 57 SE 6 - Romano-British Cemetery, Stone Castle, Stone

Summary

Romano-British burials were found in 1902-4 near Stone Castle, Dartford, south of the London Road, when topsoil was being removed prior to quarrying for chalk. Fifteen vessels were recovered: these were largely Upchurch ware, but included two Castor ware and one Samian vessel. About five burials were represented, showing both inhumation and cremation: some iron fragments in one grave suggests a wooden coffin.
