Full Description
In 1994 an evaluation was undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at the proposed site of Oasis Holiday Village, West Wood, Lyminge. Five charcoal pits were found, and thought to be prehistoric due to parallels of the same kind of feature elsewhere in the country. There were five of them discovered during the evaluation and all about 1m in diameter. The purpose of the pits are thought to be for fire due to substantial amounts of charcoal, though not hot fires for purposes like pottery firing. (1)
