Full Description

In 1994 a watching brief was done on the pipeline for the Herne Bay Water Treatment. Four ditches were observed at Site 3, which is south east of Chitty. They are all probably field boundary ditches or drainage ditches. The pottery found in it was all Late Iron Age/Roman but due to it fragmentary nature they may represent manuring of the fields rather than infilling of the ditches. (1)

In 1995 a report assessing the archaeology of the Herne Bay Waste Water Treatment plan was compiled. Four ditches, thought to field boundaries or drainage ditches were present. A small quanity of pottery was recovered and was broadly dated to Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age c.900/850-550 BC. It imples presence of another prehistoric settlement nearby. (2)
