Full Description

A small scale excavation took place in the back garden of this former pub. The excavation was part of a research project being carried out in the Ospringe area by the Faversham Society Archaeological Research Group into prehistoric and early medieval human activity. At around one metre down, gravels dominated, mixed in with a lot of animal bone, pot boilers and waste flakes. A superb denticulate hollow scraper and an asymmetric end scraper were found, along with eight small sherds of Grooved Ware. The animal bone came from red deer, bird and small mammals, and included two impressive aurochs teeth. (1)
