Full Description
In 1994 a watching brief was done on the pipeline for the Herne Bay Water Treatment. During the watching brief a pit and gully were noticed. They both contained pottery sherds. The gully however contained Peterborough Ware, which is Neolithic (3000-2000 BC). The gully may have been part of a small enclosure or structure. If so it suggests a possible Neolithic settlement site. (1)
In 1995 a report assessing the archaeology of the Herne Bay Waste Water Treatment plan was compiled. The pottery in the gully is Peterborough ware, Neolithic pottery, and thus dates the gully to being Neolithic in date.c.3000 - 2000 BC. It is thought to be part of a small enclosure or a drip gully of a building perhaps. It si evdience for a Neolithic occupation site. (2)
