Full Description

In 1994 Oxford Archaeological Unit conducted fieldwalking over the route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. Some Prehistoric and Roman pottery was recovered during the fieldwalking. Two sherds of prehistoric fine-moderate flint gritted ware was found during fieldwalking and dated to the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age date. Similar types of Prehistoric pottery were found in this area in 1802 and 1993. 22 sherd of Roman pottery was found; 20 Canterbury types, one early shell tempered pottery and one local greyware Balck Burnish pottery. It is early Roman pottery and much of it overlaps with cropmarks in the area of Iron Age or Roman date. This suggests continuity between the prhistoric period into the Roman period. (1)
