Full Description

In 1994 Oxford Archaeological Unit conducted fieldwalking over the route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. Two flint scatters were observed. One to the west near the sewage works consisted of hard-hammer struck flakes, a possible knife fragement and burnt flints. The knife is thought to be of Neolthic or Bronze Age in date, but it is hard to date securely. Another scatter is present to the east and again consists of hard-hammer struck flakes but also included a fragment from a pecked and ground saddle quern. Such querns are related to the Bronze Age.
