Full Description

In 1995 some supplementary field walking was carried out by Wessex Archaeology along the route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. A dense scatter of 99 sherds were discovered. There was locally produced shell and sand-tempered early Roman wares, inclusing a sherd of red colour-coat and the rim and base of a samian bowl. It was dated to 1st-2nd century AD. There is a lack of Iron Age pottery within this scatter, making it different to the other scatters found. (1)
