In 2010 the route of the Ashford Southern Ring Main was investigated by Kent Archaeological Projects. An evaluation at Stubb's Cross where the possible Roman road intersected with the pipeline route found an Iron Age hollow way. The hollow way was 11.2m wide and 1.3m deep, and contained pottery dating between 500 BC to AD 50.
