Full Description

A ring ditch comprising two concentric ditch circuits is visible as cropmarks on air photographs taken July 16th 2001. Located near the top of the Downs escarpment, in an area mapped as clay-with-flints, it is part of a line of perhaps four ring ditches/round barrows, the nearest being the possible barrow TR 14 SW 55, circa 40 metres to the northwest, and ring ditch TR 14 SW 57 which is 16 metres to the southeast. The two concentric ditches are quite closely spaced, the outer broader ditch having a maximum diameter of 29 metres, the inner circa 20 metres. Closely located to a number of unconfirmed linear cropmarks and a possible second, much smaller ring ditch immediately to the south west.(1)

Another possible round barrow is visible as a cropmark on air photographs taken July 16th 2001. The identification is tentative at best. A lighter, circular patch of ground is visible on photographs in a field mapped as clay-with-flints. A minimum of 7.5 metres in diameter, it lies almost directly between ring ditches TR 14 SW 54 and 56. Clearly further reconnaissance is needed to confirm or reject the identification. (1)
