Full Description
In 2009 an excavation was carried out at Margetts Pit by Wessex Archaeology. No features post-dating the very earliest Roman period were found but a small collection of later Roman pottery, late Roman coins and some brooches was made from the subsoil layers across the site. This suggests activity in the area of this date though the exact nature and location is not yet apparent. (1)
Five sherds of Roman pottery (and two sherds of medieval pottery) were found during the test-pitting exercise prior to exvation: "The medieval and Romano-British pottery was scattered throughout the Site and no clear concentrations could be defined". (2)
