Full Description

In 1997 a watching brief carried out by Archaeology South-East on topsoil stripping for gravel extraction at Lydd 8, Lydd Quarry found a spread of Bronze Age features and flints was along a shingle ridge. A hearth, consisting of a sub-rectangular spread of fire-cracked flint pebbles, was found with a few pieces of worked flint in the immediate area. A similar semi-circular spread was found 6m to the south-west, it was also associated with worked flints. Two further spreads perhaps also represent hearths in the area. Activity appeared to be focused along the shingle ridge. (1)
