Full Description
In 1998 a watching brief carried out by Archaeology South-East on topsoil stripping for gravel extraction at Lydd 9, Lydd Quarry found the remains of two whales. The first was found as a collection of apparently un butchered whale bone probably from a single individual within the silt of a former channel. The second set of whale remains consisted of extensively butchered remains from the surface of a shingle beach on the edge of the former channel. The remains had been somewhat disturbed by natural processes within the channel before and during its silting. (1)
