Full Description
A complex of brick and concrete buildings, hard-standing and structures that probably relate to PLUTO, the pipeline to France built in 1944. From the report "Inside the compound are a number of huts. This appears to be part of the terminal area when under construction. The terminal area survives as a group of 1940's buildings and facilities in a compound close to the shore. Other buildings apparently associated with PLUTO were noted during the walkover survey, c.500m to the North". (1)
Other research into the area has shown that the site was used by Trinity House as a research establishement testing marine apparatus and signal apparatus, including the very first unmanned lighthouse. The site was also home to a number of inherited structures includung a small railway, a radio tower and a structure used to test fog horns. It is now a private residence. (2)
