The Fountain House formerly stood in this location, over a spring which supplied Cobham Hall with water. It was probably a scheme engineered by Sir Charles Bickerstaffe in the late 17th century. The Fountain House was depicted on a map of 1749 as a rectangular building with seven small settling tanks along the route of the conduit. Following the construction of the pump house to the west, this building fell from use and was demolished. A summer house was built on the site in the early 19th century.

In 1959 excavations carried out within Cobham located the conduit (TQ 66 NE 3) which ran from the Fountain House. (1-2)
