Full Description
In 2004 a human cranium was found in a field after levelling groundworks, at Pay Street, Hawkinge. It was examined to satisfy the Police that it was not of recent origin. It was male and probably older than 45 years at the time of death. It was thought to be possibly of Bronze Age date, based upon cranial morphology, but a more recent historic date was also possible, given the state of preservation. It was certainly not modern. (1)
