Full Description
Two contemporary and adjoined ranges of late 19th century date. The southern was a stable whilst the northern contained a wagon store, a cooling floor for hops and an animal feed production room.
The stables were built of red brick to accommodate draught horses that worked on the farm. It was converted for use by cattle in later years. The northern range was of two stories and brick built, apart from the cooling floor elevations which are partly timber-framed and weatherboarded at first floor level. Two kilns stood to the north of this but had been demolished by the time of the building survey in 2004. The upper floor of the northern wing of the range had few surviving features but traces of fittings suggest it was used to produce animal feed. The main beams of this floor are of steel, suggesting that perhaps this room was intended to contain heavy machinery from the outset. (1)
