Full Description

In 2004 Archaeology South-East carried out a small scale excavation. A layer of hard standing was found. Three interpretations were advanced for it: 1) that it could be part of the military road that ran to the south of the Royal Military Canal; 2) that it was hard standing on which the battery embankment was constructed; 3) that it was a hard for boats that predated the 19th century defences.
