Monument record TR 26 NE 283 - Ring ditch enclosure cropmark, east of Monkton Road Farm

Summary

A large oval ring ditch visible as was identified some 700m to the east of Monkton Road Farm during the transcription of features recorded on aerial photographs. This enclosure is identified by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England as Bronze Age in character, possibly a round barrow. A number of linear features also appear to be associated with this enclosure, although it is uncertain what they are the remains of.

Full Description

Site identified during transcription of features recorded on air photographs. (1)

The cropmark remains of a large oval ring ditch with a diamteter of 20.5m x 23.3m and a possible interruption / entrance in the north-east side. This may be the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. This site is visible on aerial photographs- NMR 2602/227 24-APR-1985 and NMR 1660/457 16-JUL-1979 and has been mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024 (2-3).
