Monument record TR 36 NW 189 - Female inhumation burial, Canterbury Road West (A253), Minster

Summary

A grave was found during the construction of a gas pipeline in 1984. This feature was orientated on an east west alignment and was found at a depth of 0.3m. It was cut into brickearth, and the floor was a natural chalk surface. Much of the skeleton was destroyed by the cutting of the pipeline. Analysis of the remaining bones indicated a female aged 25-35 years old. The grave lies on the upper slope of a south facing ridge, aprox. OD 40m
