Full Description

[Area TQ 5633 7360] Lead brooch or buckle. Probably late Saxon base metal brooch. Owing to the fact that it is so decayed, B.M. officials cannot definitely commit themselves. Dug up in the back garden of 136, Watling Street, Stone, near Dartford, by owner Mr. K. Meadows, at spade depth. Land was a wheat field before houses were built there. Now in the possession of Dartford Museum [not on exhibit: find sited from O.S.6" of Arch. sites in possession of Dartford Library.]. (1) TQ 5608 7364 - Find spot pointed out by the finder Mrs. K. Meadows. The find was made in 1953 at the first turning of the soil to make a garden. Caisincg Street runs within 30.0 m. of this spot. 25" AM Survey carried out. (2)
