Full Description

On exhibition in Ramsgate public Library, donated by Mrs W.H Corkhill (a), is a C2nd poppy-head beaker found when private air-raid shelters were dug in Willsons Road in 1939. According to the workmen who gave them to Mrs Corkhill, several pots and a skeleton were found at the same time but no details are known. Mr Busson (b) thought they came from the vicinity of 'Croft Ley' TR 37506468. (1) TR 375647 (Sited to nearest 50m) Romano-British remains. Site No.182. (2) TR 375647. Here a 'poppy head' beaker was discovered along with a skeleton and some sherds of Romano-British pottery. The date of discovery may have been in 1939 during the installation of private air-raid shelters in Willsons Road. (3) Additional reference (4-6)
